Smt Savithri Satyamurthy, began learning the violin at the early age of seven from Madurai Sri Subramanya Iyer. Later she trained under Erode Viswanatha Iyer and Kumbakonam Rajamanickam Pillai. She also received training in Vocal Music from Ariyakudi Ramanuja Iyengar, Dr.S.Ramanathan and Smt.T.Brinda and T.Muktha.

She began concert performances at the young age of 12. She has accompanied several artistes of eminence such as T.R.Mahalingam, Dr.S.Ramanathan, Shri D.K. Jayaraman, Smt.M.S.Subbalakshmi, Smt.D.K.Pattammal, Smt.T.Brinda. She has played violin for Smt. M.S.Subbalakshmi's Rameswara Suprabatham.

She conducted music classes for over 20 years in Mumbai. Having accompanied Dr.S.Ramanathan during his overseas concert tours of 1987, she has since travelled to the USA, UK and Canada for performances. She has given violin solo performances in Washington, Toronto, Houston, Dallas, London and Singapore.

She was recognised as the " Best Violinist " by the Music Academy, Madras, for the festival seasons of 1985 & 1994.
